What is the difference between the annual membership and Patreon?
The annual membership is the official HSN membership — it comes with the HSN Magazine, a formal membership certificate, and a listing in our directory. It is paid once per year directly to us. Patreon is our Supporters Club — a monthly subscription that adds physical gifts, behind-the-scenes content, and Discord access on top of the membership experience. You can have one, both, or neither.
When is the HSN Magazine published?
The HSN Magazine is published quarterly — Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter — and delivered by email to all active members. The first issue (Winter 2026) will be delivered to all founding members.
My institution already has a page on the HSN website. Do we need to pay?
Many of our 90+ partner organizations currently hold complimentary memberships — particularly those who were among the Network's founding partners. Please contact us at membership@historicshipsnetwork.com to discuss your institution's status.
How do I pay for an annual membership?
Send an email to membership@historicshipsnetwork.com stating your name, chosen tier, and whether you prefer bank transfer or PayPal. We will respond within two working days with payment instructions and, once confirmed, send your welcome pack and first magazine issue.
What is the Historic Ships Council?
The Historic Ships Council is the advisory body of the Network, open to Supporting Members, Institutional Members, and Patreon First Class supporters and above. Council members vote on upcoming research projects, magazine themes, and key decisions about the Network's future direction.
