About the Organization

The Cobh Heritage Centre occupies a unique and deeply poignant place in maritime history. It was from Cobh — then known as Queenstown — that RMS Titanic made her final port of call on April 11, 1912, embarking her last passengers before setting course for New York. It was also to Cobh that the bodies of many victims of the RMS Lusitania disaster were brought after she was torpedoed off the Old Head of Kinsale on May 7, 1915.

The Centre's permanent exhibition, The Queenstown Story, explores the intertwined histories of Irish emigration, the transatlantic liners, and the two defining maritime disasters of the early twentieth century. Housed in the beautifully restored Victorian railway station on the Cobh waterfront, the Centre uses original artefacts, personal testimonies, and immersive displays to bring these stories to life.

As a partner of the Historic Ships Network, the Cobh Heritage Centre represents an irreplaceable witness to the golden age of ocean travel — and to its most devastating losses. Standing on the quayside where Titanic's tenders last departed and where Lusitania's dead were laid out, it is a place of memory unlike any other.
