Don Lynch is the official historian of the Titanic Historical Society and one of the most respected Titanic scholars in the world. His command of the subject — from the ship's construction and passenger manifest to the minutiae of the sinking itself — has made him an indispensable resource for researchers, filmmakers, and enthusiasts alike.

In 1992, Lynch co-authored Titanic: An Illustrated History with artist Ken Marschall — a comprehensive, beautifully illustrated volume that became a New York Times bestseller and later served as a key reference for James Cameron's 1997 film. Cameron called on both Lynch and Marschall as historical consultants throughout production, reportedly contacting them in the middle of the night to verify details.

Lynch appeared uncredited in Cameron's film as first-class passenger Frederick Spedden, seen watching his son spin a top on the boat deck. He also co-authored Ghosts of the Abyss with Marschall, documenting Cameron's deep-dive expedition to the wreck. Beyond his published work, Lynch has accumulated an extensive private collection of Titanic memorabilia and has personally known survivors and their families over the years.
