Geoff Whitfield
Cunard Line Historian · Liverpool Maritime Heritage
Biography
Geoff Whitfield is a dedicated researcher of Cunard Line history with a particular focus on the Liverpool–New York service during the golden age of transatlantic travel — roughly the 1890s through the 1930s. Based in Liverpool, the historic home port of Cunard, he has direct access to local archives and records that illuminate the operational and human side of the great shipping company.
His research interests extend to the broader maritime heritage of Liverpool itself — the docks, the agents, the stevedores, and the communities whose lives were bound up with the ships that passed through the Mersey. This grounding in social history gives his work a depth that purely technical maritime scholarship sometimes lacks.
Within the Historic Ships Network, Whitfield contributes specialist knowledge of the Cunard fleet and its role in connecting Britain and North America through nearly a century of passenger shipping.
