Founded in 1929, Mystic Seaport Museum is America's foremost maritime museum and one of the most significant in the world. Set on a recreated 19th-century seafaring village on the banks of the Mystic River in Connecticut, the museum brings maritime history to life for over half a million visitors each year.
The Museum's collection encompasses over 500 historic vessels, including the Charles W. Morgan — the world's last wooden whaleship, launched in 1841 — alongside four-masted schooners, steam vessels, and small craft of every description. Its G.W. Blunt White Library holds over one million maritime photographs and 300,000 books and documents.
Beyond its galleries and vessels, Mystic Seaport operates a working shipyard where craftspeople practice the traditional art of wooden boat building and restoration. Its programmes educate over 200,000 students annually.
