The Course We Charted

It began in 2007. What started as a singular passion project — a small collection of pages about the world's most famous ocean liners — has evolved over nearly two decades into the world's foremost digital alliance dedicated to maritime history.

"We do not merely catalog ships. We resurrect them."

Founded by Tadija Miletić, the Network grew from a handful of carefully researched pages into a vast, interconnected web of communities, archives, and partnerships spanning every continent. What was once a personal passion has become a global institution.

Today, the Historic Ships Network™ comprises eminent experts in nautical science, maritime historians, archaeologists, museum professionals, and thousands of passionate enthusiasts — all united by the conviction that the golden age of ocean travel must never be forgotten.

A Chronicle of Milestones

2007
The Network Is Born
Tadija Miletić creates a set of nearly 20 pages dedicated to the world's most celebrated transatlantic liners. What began as a personal passion project quickly gained traction among maritime enthusiasts, laying the foundation for what would become a global movement.
2009
First International Partnership
Cristian Cararra joins from Bergamo, Italy, bringing with him a community dedicated to RMS Titanic. Alongside a growing team of administrators and moderators from around the world, the network begins its first international expansion.
2011
The Olympic Class System — First Visual Identity
The network receives its first formal visual identity and is officially branded the Olympic Class System — a name reflecting the dominant focus on the White Star Line's three sister ships. In reality, however, the system had already grown far beyond Olympic, Titanic, and Britannic, encompassing dozens of other vessels from across maritime history.
2015
Institutional Outreach Begins
Tadija initiates contact with leading maritime historians, museum curators, university researchers, and heritage institutions worldwide. Many join the pages, sharing their academic findings, rare photographs, and archival materials — transforming the community from an enthusiast network into a serious scholarly resource.
2017
Millions Reached
The pages achieve viral reach for the first time, recording multi-million views during key maritime anniversaries. The network's reach grows exponentially, cementing its position as the world's most-followed digital platform for historic ships and ocean liner history.
2021
Complete Reorganization — Historic Ships Network™
A landmark year. The entire system is reorganized and rebranded as the Historic Ships Network™ — a name that reflects the true scope of the alliance. The new identity transcends social media, establishing a formal international network of organizations, institutions, and individuals dedicated to maritime heritage in all its forms.
2024
13 Million Reached — A Record Year
During landmark commemorations including the RMS Titanic Memorial Month and the RMS Lusitania Memorial Week, the network's combined reach surpasses 13,000,000 people — making it the single most impactful maritime history event in the digital era. The milestone confirms HSN's position as the world's foremost institution for maritime memory.
